"As far as the positive; yes we are two gay men with three kids who have no problem with preparing them for their education every morning; that comes with anything and everything they may need for school! Our kids are blessed to have three parents (Kordale, Kaleb and their Mother) who love, care and support them in every decision they have made and will continue to make as they get older. We are blessed to have the ability to provide for them in ways that a lot of people cannot for their family, which ultimately makes us happy knowing that they don't want for much! Our main objective as parents is to provide, love, educate, support, encourage, and love some more! |
Kordale and Kaleb became known into our society when they posted a picture of them getting two of their three children ready for school in the morning. The response from society was very passionate, whether it be positive or negative. Responses consisted of homophobia and racism. What really got to me about these two fathers is that even the people and articles praising them were still very condescending. Instead of praising these fathers for having a loving, close-knit family, they were being praised for being two black fathers actually getting their children ready in the morning. This is how our society is though; homosexuals are still not the norm for us, even though they should be.
The statement above by Kordale and Kaleb was released in response to The Huffington Post. What stood out most in this article to me is when they say “our main objective as parents is to provide, love, educate, support, encourage, and love some more!” When viewers read their response it really puts things into perspective; they are people too. This is what many fail to recognize, homosexuals may like the same sex and that may not be what we choose to do, but they are human just as we are and have the same emotions we have. Also, another point Kordale and Kaleb pointed out was that they were both raised by heterosexual parents. They were raised just as any one of us were and they still are homosexual. This does not mean they do not know how to take care of their children or anything of that nature. Kordale and Kaleb should be being praised for being good parents; those children look so happy.
Something very interesting about finding this article was how easy and fast it was to find. It all started with a little picture on Instagram. A picture of a gay couple taking care of their children doesn’t sound like something that should be newsworthy, especially as big as it has become. Kordale and Kaleb maybe were posting this picture to document it like everyone else on Instagram and any social media site would. This story shows viewers how far we are going to have to go to completely accepting homosexual parents and seeing them as a traditional family. These two men are just taking care of their children, getting them ready for school and loving them unconditionally, and they are now having to deal with this lack of acceptability in the gay community.
